Getting around Singapore — a quick first-timer's guide

✈️
From Changi Airport
One of the world's easiest airports. To the city: the MRT (East-West line) ~30 min, or a taxi/Grab ~20–30 min (≈ S$25–40). Free Wi-Fi and SIM kiosks in the arrivals hall.
🚆
To NUS University Town
Nearest station is Kent Ridge (Circle Line); from there a free NUS internal shuttle runs to UTown, or take a short Grab. Allow extra time in the morning peak.
💳
Paying for transport
Just tap a contactless Visa/Mastercard (SimplyGo) on MRT and buses — no separate card needed. Or buy an EZ-Link card. Use the Grab app for rides. Currency is SGD; cards accepted almost everywhere.
🌦️
Weather & what to pack
Hot and humid year-round (≈ 26–32°C) with sudden showers. Bring light clothing and a compact umbrella — and a layer, because indoor aircon is strong.
🔌
Power & connectivity
Type G (UK-style) plugs, 230V. Grab a cheap tourist eSIM/SIM at the airport, or use free public Wi-Fi (Wireless@SG).
🍜
Eat & explore
Hawker centres are affordable, safe and iconic — try one near campus or in town. Singapore is very safe, walkable, and English is widely spoken.
